ETIQUETTE
Golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players, care for the course and to abide by the Rules. All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be. Etiquette is an integral and inextricable part of the game, which has come to define golf's values. |
bunkers expected standards of etiquette
Here are a list of things we would expect of our members in terms of etiquette:
course care

♦ Repair any spike marks where necessary after putting out
♦ Ensure no damage is done to the greens when laying down golf bags and flagsticks and replace the flagstick properly before leaving the green.

player safety
♦ Shout "FORE" if there is the slightest possibility a ball may strike someone. If you don't know what is located near where your ball is flying you MUST shout. The excuse of "I never knew" simply isn't good enough.
Unsure?...shout "FORE"♦ Make sure the group ahead are out of range before playing a shot
♦ Ensure that there is no one too near before making a swing |
pace of play
♦ Do not loiter around the greens marking your card. Finish the hole, walk to the next tee and then mark it.
♦ If you think you may have lost a ball, play a second 'provisional' ball from the same spot to save having to walk back if you cannot find the first one. It doesn't cost anything. ♦ Be "Ready to Play", do not stand around watching others take their shot - be preparing your own. ♦ Signal players behing to pass when searching for a ball ♦ When approaching a green, locate the next tee and leave your clubs that side of the green before you putt. ♦ Allow faster players to pass through |
general politeness
♦ Do not move, talk or stand close to, or directly behind, the ball OR the hole when a player is making a stroke
♦ "GIMMES" must be agreed by the society as "in play" at the event. If they are, then every player in the group MUST agree each "Gimme". It should be 'within the leather'. That means the distance between the hole and the ball is less that the distance between the putter head and the bottom of the grip of the shortest putter within the group.
♦ DRESS CODE is strictly smart and in keeping with the game [and our own personal standards]
COURSE DRESS shall be polo shirts or collared t-shirts. Pants without studs or leg pockets must be worn and golfing shoes in keeping with course rules apply. Jumpers should be as plain as possible and should not be covered in large advertising or brand logos.
POST GOLF DRESS for any meals/functions shall be smart casual as you would expect on any respectable 'night out' and should be shoes NOT trainers.
