Ups and downs...
The latest Bunkers event saw us take to the hills and undulations of Houghwood in Rainford. The weather was kind for the second consecutive event as the sun shone and the wind remained calm - which is always a welcome bonus at Houghwood.
The course looked to be in great condition but the greens were found to be a little bit "fluffy" and played quite slow, but the rest was in full bloom and great condition.
The banter was flowing as ever on the 1st and Lloydys new hot spot in the opening group did him proud again as he slogged a ripper 30 yards up the fairway. Some lovely opening tee shots set the tone for a good days golf.
The event was won by Rob Botterill - who continued his impressive early season form by posting a score of 33 points to pip Chris Berry by a solitary point. Rob also took nearest the pin on the 16th to round off a very successful days golf. Chris had a solid round and produced a booming drive to win the longest drive comp on the 13th with a staggering roll out of 314 yards!!
Newest member Paul Davies came third with 29 points. Although he was disappointed with some lost points, Davo scored well throughout with 6 consecutive two point holes to start the back 9.
Three players tied for 4th with Jay Paulden and Dave Ashley both having decent rounds that were the tale of two halfs with them both scoring heavily on the front 9 but not continuing it on the way in.
Keith Malone, Kev Givnan and Ste Evans all tied 7th on 24 points. Rounds that could be summed up in much the same way as the golf course - very up and down. Some decent scoring but too many blobs to seriously push for the top spot.
Phil Williams recent spurt of good form hit a slight blip with a tied 10th place finish on 20 points along with John Coote with a card filed with too many zeros for their liking.
This left the nervous pairing of Marc Lloyd and Andy Roper and the possibility for both of them as being the first person to appear on the wall of shame for the second time and this unenviable victory fell to Andy Roper who finished 2 points worse off than Marc on 16. A terrible round with a shocking back 9 score of 6 points.
