Andy Roper - [Chairman]
Andy started playing golf in 2011 after listening to his close friend Craig Evans go on and on about not having a golfing partner. After years of resistance, he finally purchased a "bag of bats" and began to rip up golf courses [literally] around the North West.
Andy soon became bored of paying over the odds to play on sub standard courses. Therefore, he put forward an idea in 2012 to start a golf society amongst his friends and work colleagues.
Bunkers Golf Society was born.
The idea was to bring like minded people together around the game of golf but also have it run as professionally and originally as possible.

Steve Evans - [captain]
Steve Evans was asked to be one of the founders of Bunkers Golf Society due to his experience in the game and knowledge of the sport and also of courses locally. Even though he is a member of Gathurst Golf Club in Wigan, and spends a lot of time in his place in Murcia, Steve has been one of the driving forces behind Bunkers and has brought guests along with him - some of which have joined up as members.
A love of the game and banter has made Steve popular with members.
If you need any advice on the rules then Steve is the man to ask and he has his "Tip of the Pops" section on our wesbite.

Dave Ashley - [president]
Dave joined at our event at Leigh after being impressed with the set up. Dave is a close friend of Steve Evans and has known a lot of the other members for years.
Another experienced voice around the table and always found with a smile on his face. Dave is popular within the group and this developed into him being invited to be the society President as the season drew on.
If only he could swing like he does when he sings!!! See Daves website by CLICKING HERE

Ste holmes [treasurer]
Ste has been mates with Andy Roper since primary school and has known most of the lads in the society for years. It was only natural that one day he would sign up. A popular character among the group and universally well liked. Ste has been playing golf for a few years and used to be a member at Eccleston Park. A lover of the banter and a chief wind-up merchant.
In August 2014, Ste was invited onto the society committee as an integral part of the society and a respected voice amongst the group.

Phil Williams - [secretary]
Phil works with Andy Roper and after a brief conversation Phil came to the first Bunkers meeting in late 2012 when the society was designed and the initial foundation ideas were set and he was one of the driving forces in getting us 'off the ground'.
Since then, Phil has been enthusiastically taking part in the game and has fitted in to the group with ease, eventually being promoted to Secretary at the end of 2013.
The first person to hit the "wall of shame" Phil responded by taking lessons with Chris Clarke and bouncing back with some impressive performances.

Craig Evans - [handicap secretary]
Craig has been playing golf from a young age and as a result has often been on at his mates to take up the game so he has people to play with regularly. However, they do almost anything they can to avoid his company - and therefore it went 31 years before any of his mates listened to him [even then its argued that they took it up just to silence him!]
An important part of the society, Craig works as the Handicap secretary and in his debut season was likened to "The Grim Reaper" for the manner in which he went about his work.
To be fair, he romped the debut season and walked away with the Player of the Year.

Kevin Givnan
Kev had played golf with Craig Evans at a younger age and they went through school together. However, Kev moved away from golf and continued with football and following Everton, only coming back to it in the summer of 2011.
He is passionate about the game and commits a lot of time to it to make himself a better player - which has started to come to fruition in 2013.
Kev is also a major voice in the Bunkers set up and is a moderator on our web forum.

Peter Woolley
Peter Woolley is close friends with Steve and Craig Evans and was someone the lads have met several times over the years. Again, Peter is a member of another fine course over at Blundells Hill but was impressed with what Bunkers were doing and enjoyed the camaraderie so much that he joined after his first guest visit. Another experienced golfer and one to chat to over a nice glass of red!
Chris Berry
Chris/Bez/Chuck is a member at Gathurst and was introduced to Bunkers by Keith Malone.
An ever present on events he has fitted well into the group dynamics and is a popular lad at events. Bez enjoys the banter and has put in some solid early performances.
Anyone who uses a Man United ball marker and dons a Man United branded putter cover in front of a load of Scousers deserves a pat on the back!!

Rob Botterill
Rob joined Bunkers via Keith Malone and came under the guise of being a total newbie. However, he has put in some cracking early performances that have seen his handicap drop quickly.
Rob has been ever-present at events up to June and is a loyal and enthusiastic golfer who has fitted into the group well.

Marc Lloyd
Lloydy is possibly one of the most enthusiastic members of the society, and God knows he's needed it at times in 2013. Lloydy had the honour [or not] of taking home our "Loser" t-shirt after finding himself on THE WALL OF SHAME three times in the season.
However, you never really see him sulking about it. A popular member of the society who is alway having a laugh and enjoying golf for what it is.........a game.

Paul Davis
Paul joined following our event at Houghwood but was well known to the group having been on the Gleneagles trip. Paul was introduced by long standing friend Steve Evans and already knew a large portion of the society beforehand.
Anywhere theres been a golf course, Paul has probably played it. A popular member of the society and enjoys the banter as much as anyone out there.

allan gunn
Allan was introduced to Bunkers via Peter Woolley at our gathering at North West National in late June. He was impressed enough to return at our Worsley event and was won over to commit to the society.
Allan is a great addition to the group. A keen and experienced golfer and a top fella, he fits in nicely to the society and we are delighted he has decided to join us.

scott seddon
Scott has been a mate with lots of the group for a number of years. Originally introduced to a large number of the lads having worked with Andy Roper, Scott became a close friend and used to play football with the lads and was part of the social circle that used to almost live in The Vic on Old Skem back in the early 2000's.
After a few years apart, its with great pleasure that Scott is back in the fold and as a keen golfer and a lad who loves banter - he is a superb addition to the group.

Stu seddon
Brother of Scott; Stu has been mates with a lot of the Bunkers lads just as long as Scott.
As with a lot of things in life, work and general life commitments sometimes mean people drift away from each other at times. Its good to have Stu back in the fold and his banter and easy going manner will make him a great addition to the society. |
paul davies jnr
With his Dad already in the group, Paul Davies Jnr first attended at our Bunkers Invitational in 2013 - and promptly walked away with the prizes after a superb knock.
Following that, Paul came along on our end of season trip to the Belfry and established himself with the lads - thanks in most part to some unusual dance moves!!!
Paul has established himself as one of the strongest players within the group and popular lad off the course.

kevin murphy
Kev joined Bunkers towards the end of our 2013 season and has been a strong and steady player throughout. Working at Clarkes Golf Centre in Rainford, Kev is someone the lads see regularly for new equipment and fittings and is fast becoming a major figure within the society.
Kev's ambition for 2015 is to get himself down to a Cat 1 player. A tough ask, but we wouldn't put it past him with his commitment and with all the right support around him through work.

keiran murphy
Keiran joined shortly after his brother Kev and has seen a dramatic rise in improvement in his game in the short time he has been part of the society -with his handicap dropping quicker than a dutch hookers knickers!
With a bomb of a tee shot and an ever improving short game, its surely only time before Keiran is slashed even further on his handicap.
A Major winner in his first season, he will be looking to defend his title and build on that in 2015.

mark gaskell
Mark joined the society shortly after Kev and Keiran Murphy and has been a steady performer during his time within the group - and has won the Justice Cup back in 2013.
Don't let his 'cack handed' grip fool you, this boy can launch the ball and its only a matter of time before those bombing shots land him in contention for the Major titles.

john standley
John has been known to a lot of the lads from growing up and playing football around Skelmersdale.
An enthusiastic golfer and keen all round sportsman, John will be a welcomed addition to Bunkers.

john gaskell
John is close mates with Craig and Ste Evans along Andy Roper and has taken up golf having seen how much the others have been getting to do as a result of it.
A popular figur with a large portion of the society, John will be a welcome addition to the group in 2014 and no doubt will make his presence heard [and felt!]
Greenstaff wince in fear as they see him strut towards the course....

chris smith
Chris is close friends with Steve Evans and was already known by several members of the group. Always giggling and laughing, he's a popular figure amongst the lads and a very fine golfer - particularly around the greens - with some saying he's better on the Dancefloors than Michael Jackson!
allan gannon
Allan joined for the start of our 2014 season after finding Bunkers through the magic of the internet.
A very enthusiastic golfer who joins us having moved from a society that was located just a little bit too far from home. We aim to be able to provide Allan with all his golfing needs and hopes he enjoys meeting everyone and becoming part of everything we do at Bunkers. Welcome.

brendan smith
Brendan has joined Bunkers after being pointed in our direction by his friend Allan Gannon and is starting to feel more and more comfortable within the society.
A pleasant lad to share 18 holes of golf with, Brendan is always chatty and conversational and has fitted into the society nicely.
He will be hoping that a bit more golf in 2015 will reward him with consistent scoring and he will start to see his handicap drop.

chris warbrick
Chris found Bunkers Golf Society via the medium of the super-hyper-global-meganet aka Google.
He came along as a guest at our event at Heswall and immediately joined and has never looked back.
An enthusiastic golfer with a wise head, he has enjoyed some superb scores in his short time with the society and quickly found himself on the winners table.

such as......
stephen dando
Dando [or "Gill" as we call him] is a close friend of Bunkers, having been introduced to most of the group at Gleneagles in 2013. Our "international player and superstar" [from the far reaches of the Welsh valleys] is sadly too far away from Liverpool to be a regular attendee, but we know he is with us in spirit at each event. He gets to see us when he can, and when he does the day is all the better for it.
dave lumley
Dave is the first person to join the group from a website enquiry. Having never met any of us before he turned up for our event at Houghwood and fitted in without any issues.
Unfortunately, work has taken Dave to London for the 2014 season and we hope he will make a return in the not to distant future. A good lad, and a good addition to the society.
