Here comes the sun...
The first dry and sunny event of Bunkers' season and it didn't disappoint. A healthy turnout was rewarded with a cloud free sky and the settings were all primed to make for a great days golf.
The course was in immaculate condition with mature trees in full bloom and tidy fairways capped off with outstanding greens that played firm and quick.
On the first tee the banter was in full swing and the lads were trying to gain the psychological advantage without a ball being struck in anger.
Most players managed to hold their nerves together - some better than others - but Marc Lloyd's set the tone for how his days play would pan out with a mishit top shot off the 1st tee.
As with everything, the sun helped to put everyone in a great mood and it was all down to who would consistently well to walk away with 1st place.
The par 3 challenge was in play and nearest the pins were set on the 7th and 12th holes.
In the end, it was Alec Power who just pipped Steve Evans to 1st place by 1 point. Alec's round was epitomised by consistent work off the tee and great course management. Throw in a few nice long putts with some tidy wedge play around the greens and it was a well deserved win for Alec on his Bunkers debut.
Steve was unlucky not to take the top spot after a delicious eagle on the par 4 second by sinking his second shot from distance. He scored well but with 3 blobs it was just enough to allow Alec to slip in to take the honours.
Kev Givnan continued early season scoring form with another strong showing to finish in 3rd. Kev was a bit disappointed with his swing following recent tweaks with his pro but still produced a strong points tally.
After wearing the "Loser" t-shirt at Didsbury, Andy Roper produced a solid round of 29 to finish joint 4th with new member Dave Ashley in his first outing with Bunkers. Andy with just 1 blob on his card scored OK throughout. Dave could have taken the top spot but for 2 blobs on the last two holes after a solid first 16.
Chris Berry lay on the first tee after a heavy day on the ale at Chester races the day before, but still managed an admirable 28 points. After a shaking front 9 which matched his hangover blues, he put in a strong performance on the back 9 to push himself up the leaderboard.
Rob Botterill and Phil Williams both finished on 25 points and were a tad disappointed with elements of their rounds but scored well in parts. Keith Malone and Jay Paulden finished next on 24 points with a mixed bag of a round with some promising holes sprinkled with a few punishing ones as far as scoring was concerned.
Peter Woolley had a round he wouldn't want to remember for too long finishing with back-to-back blobs. A great front 9 was dragged down by poorer scoring on the back 9.
John Coote and guest Jay Carr both tied on 21 points - a score that last time gave Andy Roper the place on the "Wall of Shame".
That just left this events wooden spoon winner and for the first time on the Bunkers "Wall of Shame" - Mark Lloyd with a score that left him as blue as the club he loves. Chin up lad.
