We joined our friends at GolfBreaks4U on one of their "Drive to Spain" events at West Derby Golf Club in Liverpool.
The event was pairs betterball and produced some good scores across the board. However, the days winners who won on a card count back were consistent from tee to green and dovetailed beautifully to put together a superb knock of 43 betterball points. Congratulations to Chris Parrish & Steve Bradshaw on a superb round of golf. |
official bunkers review....
Twenty two members headed to West Derby Golf Club in Liverpool to take part in our friends, and partners, at GolfBreaks4U for one of their "Drive to Spain" pairs betterball competitions. The day was hosted by GolfBreaks4U but we 'tagged on" to host an event within an event and therefore members had the chance to win the usual Bunkers prizes as well as the top performing pair on the day had the chance of winning a trip to sunny Spain to take part in the Grand Final.
West Derby is a leafy and tight course that requires as much thought as it does power and therefore it makes the course a superb leveller for all abilities and handicaps. On the day, the course played wonderfully with slick and smooth greens that generally rolled true and well manicured fairways and teeing areas.
The facilities at the club are good and the set up is lovely with a winding brook meandering its way throughout most for he front 9 of the course. Without being too many standout holes, the course is still very pleasing on the eye and is a delight to play with accuracy being the order of the day.
For this event, there will not be individual group reviews, but the final result table above shows how the day played out. Some superb scores and a tight finishing board is evidence of this. The scoring for the above table was taken from Bunkers official handicaps, and the overall competition took into consideration handicaps of those who are members at clubs and hold CONGU registered handicaps.
Therefore, the highest scoring pair in the overall competition on the day was Craig Evans and Kev Givnan with 45 points. This was enough to see them finish 3rd place overall - and although they just missed out on the trip to Spain, the pair still won an overnight golfing trip to the North East of England.
A superb days golf and a wonderful venue that we hope to return back to in the near future.
