Sunday 12th May 2013
This event was won by:
Craig Evans
Winner - Craig EvansThe 2013 High Tee Open was won on 12th May by Craig Evans.
Winner of the annual trophy and title holder for the next 12 months, Craig scored impressively throughout his round in persistent rain and difficult conditions finishing with 36 stableford points and a gross 9 over par. Strong scoring and consistency around the greens enabled Craig to walk away with the trophy and £25 prize vouchers. Craig was pleased to take home this years first trophy event as can be clearly seen by the delight and joy etched all over his face. Well done Evo. We wait to see if someone can snatch his crown next year. |
And so it was off to Didsbury.....
After the difficult conditions at Mollington, Bunkers made their was to Didsbury in Manchester for the first trophy event of the season. With a few members unable to make the trip, numbers weren't as strong as we'd hoped but that never dampened the spirits.
Once again, the weather Gods were not kind and the rain set in as we made our way to the course.
Persistent drizzle, sprinkled with patches of heavy rain made for difficult conditions and a wet afternoon.
The course was in wonderful condition with recent warmer weather bringing the course into bloom and the lush green parkland was in tip-top order.
Despite the poor conditions, everyone had a great afternoon and only had good things to say. Scoring - on average - was stronger than Mollington and progress was made by most people.
Mollingtons Wooden Spoon winner - Phil Williams - posted a much improved round and was strong from tee to green, particularly on the back 9. Rob Botterill posted another strong score, belying his handicap and took home one of the nearest the pin competitions.
Kev Givnan continued his recent run of good form with a second place and some strong and consistent scoring.
New member Mark Lloyd put aside starting nerves and came good at the end of the back nine and finished with 3 consectutive 3 pointers to put in a good first appearance score.
Chris Berry produced a solid round and some wonderful long iron shots to post a decent score.
Peter Wooley was solid throughout with taking home a nearest the pin and finishing in 3rd place. Steve Evans continued with his solid driving and consistency around the greens.
Leaving just Keith Malone and Andy Roper to battle it out for the abuse and mockery of the wooden spoon. Roper clinching it with a sloppy finish on the 18th to finish on 21 points, with Malone on 22. The only way is up!
