a new relationship...
Today marked the first day in a new and exciting relationship for Bunkers and its members. 14 of our existing 16 members signed up to a superb corporate deal with North West National Golf Club in Rainford. The deal ensures full membership and 7 day a week golf with a full handicapping system to utilise. This exclusive offer that was negotiated by Bunkers has enabled us to provide an unbeatable offer for our members to help hone skills and gain an official recognised handicap.
A few regulars were missing due to holidays or committments but we also saw a couple of guests make a welcome appearance. One of our first members was making his first event of the season, and it turned out to be a very interesting debut for Adam Dagnall.
The weather all week had been horrendous and we didn't hold out much hope for the round. However, the golfing Gods did us a favour again and we had a very pleasant day with the sun making brief appearances.
The groups needed a little tinkering pre match, but one thing remained the same - Marc Lloyd took his place within the first group - keeping up the Bunkers tradition. This time he struck an absolute beauty and danced his way off the tee box [see the photos below]
That day was won overall by Phil Williams with a very impressive 37 points and the highest score in any event so far this season. Its been quite a transformation from Phil who was the first player to feature on the wall of shame this season. Credit where its due and a superb knock took a deserved 1st place.
Rob Botterill continued his impressive form with a second place finish and just pipped guest Alan who came in third.
Guest of Peter Woolley, Alan Gunn, put in a solid performance and scored well throughout to finish 3rd.
Kev Givnan continued his consistent season and could have found himself higher up the table but for a jittery back nine ,but some great golf scattered throughout to finish in a tie for 5th place with Chris Berry who had a solid performance but felt at times that the golf never matched his scoring.
7th place was taken by Andy Roper who holds a consistent mid table position after a spell of poor performances.
Newest member Ste Holmes started well and with a few more 1 pointers instead of 'blobs' on his card could have easily found himself in the glory positions - nevertheless a good debut.
Craig Evans, Marc Lloyd and Peter Woolley all came in tied 9th. Craig came flying out the blocks scoring heavily on the first 5 holes and solidly through the front 9. However, a less impressive back 9 prevented what looked like a 'dead cert' victory early on. Peters duffed tee shot on the 1st was recovered from with impressive guile and he produced a fair round in tricky conditions. The day started sublimely for Lloydy who caressed a sweet drive down the centre of the 1st fairway and strutted off the tee box like he had just been asked out on a date by Michelle Keegan!!! However, a few too many zeros on the scorecard saw that high slowly fade to a tied 9th finish.
Chris Berry's guest - Daryl Rogerson - had a tough afternoon on this tricky, long course which was compounded due to the effects of the night before's alcohol consumption.
That brings us down to debutante and the newest golfer in the group, with only 4 prevous rounds under his belt. A very tough course for a beginner and a real confidence lashing for last place, Adam Dagnall.

Originally the site of Pottery Farm, Rainford, Lancashire, a successful family farming business for some 100 years, which then came to a natural end in the third millenium due to the changes in the farming industry, planning permission for a golf complex was sought in 2003.
Martin Turner, (founder and owner), came to this development following on to his first design and construction of a golf course complex at Charnock Richard Golf Club, where he utilised a flat farmland site of 160 acres to develop a parkland course of 6,100 yards along with the building of members' facilities, separate function room and Italian restaurant.
