Over the hill...
Shrigley Hall had originally been booked as Bunkers debut venue back in March. However, a freak turn in weather consisting of heavy snow and super low temperatures caused it to be cancelled at the last minute. Fingers were crossed for better weather on the re-arranged date [but knowing the UK, we could never write the snow off!!]
The weather wizards were on our side as forecast rain never materialised and, in fact, the sun had its little hat on for most of the day. The course had been played by a couple of members after the postponement and hopes were high for a cracking venue with it being the summer. However, the course was a little disappointing. The layout was superb, but there were too many "blind shots" with punishing long rough on the run off areas that caught a few people out and balls were lost from seemingly straight forward shots. The greens were also in a sub standard condition and were inconsistent. Fluffy and patchy for most, but with the odd quick green thrown in randomly. The could have done with a cut and roll and would probably have been spot on. That being said, there are some beautiful holes and views.
Numbers for the event were also lower than recent outings due to work commitments and a few of the lads being sent to work the G8 in Northern Ireland. However, it never dampened spirits and the now renowned Bunkers banter was in full flow on the 1st tee.
The nearest the pins were set on the signature hole 8th and the 14th, with a nearest the pin on 2nd shot on the 2nd hole. There mini comps being snapped up by Steve Evans, Kev Givnan and Craig Evans respectively.
The overall prize went to guest for the day, Bob Taylor with an solid knock of 36. Strong scoring throughout and consistent play from tee to green brought about the well deserved 1st place.
A cracking front 9 of 18 points set Rob Botterill up for another impressive performance. Just a shame the back 9 wasn't as strong or he would have possibly taken his second win of the season.
Chris Berry, Steve Evans and Kev Givnan continued their solid and reliable seasons with scores of 28. Just a couple of poor holes for each and a lost ball or two prevented a higher finish, but all 3 must feel a win is coming soon with such early season consistency.
Two time loser Andy Roper produced a much stronger performance and appeared to iron out some of the previous issues to post a respectable 27 points.
Craig Evans and Paul Davis may have had the group competition on their minds as they "tin hatted" Chris Berry and Keith Malone to win their groups mini bets. However, a couple of inconsistent holes and a fair bit of bad luck saw them finish mid table overall.
Dave Ashley had a solid round which belies his finish of 9th with 24 points. Some decent holes but not with the scoring he would have hoped for.
Second guest Brian Dean came in with 23 points and after a superb front 9 of 8 points, somehow managed to capitulate to score only 5 on the way in.
That just leaves Keith Malone to prop up the group with a 18 points. He will say he played OK and just never scored well....but, the points don't lie Malone. Enjoy your place on the WALL OF SHAME - to see it, CLICK HERE

Our 18-hole, par-71 course was designed by celebrated architect Donald Steel, who’s worked on every Open Championship venue in the country. The course takes you through magnificent woodland and open parkland.
